“Oh, blegh! Dog kisses. No, Drabble, NO KISSES! Keep your bad breath to yourself. Pah!” Unis stood up quickly wiping her mouth on the back of her hand. “Oh, you think you want that water-logged food? Well you better eat it up fast before it melts to mush. And that’s it for you until tonight, Mister, so live it up. You can have more water, though.”
She retrieved the bowl, making sure to hold her face away from the puppy’s advances, filled it from the faucet and set it back down. Drabble, unaware of the size of his paws, immediately stepped into the bowl, tipping it so that water went splashing over the floor again.
“Drabble, Drabble, Drabble. I knew you were going to be a mess the minute I saw you. Yes I did, you silly dog. I just knew it. And now you’re going to act all cute and wag your entire rear end? You think you can get away with anything just because you’re a hero?” The pup rolled his head under his front paw and Unis sighed. “Well, you probably can get away with a lot, you smelly, wiggly little thing ”
Unis pulled the big mop from behind the electric washer. Using one foot to keep Drabble out of the way, she mopped the porch linoleum for the fourth time that morning. She squeezed the mop out in the dump-sink, put it upright in its place, and patted a drum-roll on her thighs. “Ok, boy, are you ready? Are you ready? Let’s go see if you left me something on the back steps.”
